| Reston comedian Teddy Carpenter will perform at the House of Wings in Herndon on Nov. 21 as part of the Fierce Funny Friday comedy series. Carpenter has performed at the world renowned Apollo Theater and worked with performers such as The Isley Brothers, R. Kelly, and the late Bernie Mac. | Town of Herndon to Repave Streets Through Dec. 6 |
| Annual repaving on Herndon streets began on Nov. 6 and will continue through the first week of December. The repaving will be done to maintain safety and the appearance of neighborhood streets. The majority of the work will be conducted between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Residents who live in neighborhoods where repaving is scheduled should park their cars off of streets and in driveways. Cars left on streets may be towed. Residents can call the department of public works for special requests or with information on neighbors who may be out of town whose cars are parked on streets. Residents are also requested to keep leaves raked to the edge of their yards between their house and the sidewalk as work is conducted. | Town to Host Turkey Trot |
| The Town of Herndon's annual Turkey Trot 5K race will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 22 on the Herndon Centennial Golf Course. Registration is currently available at the Herndon Community Center and online at www.active.com. Race day registration will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Herndon Community Center gym. Runners of all ages are welcome to compete and prizes will be awarded to the top racers. Pre-registration is $15 with a donation of a can of food and race day registration is $20 for adults and $15 for youth plus a can of food. | Diabetes Awareness Forum Planned |
| A diabetes awareness forum and town hall meeting will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Reston Community Center at Hunters Woods. Prominent experts in the field of diabetes prevention and treatment will attend the free event, which also will include nutrition tips, door prizes and informational handouts. The Reston chapter of The Links, a civic organization of women organized in 1975 to serve the Northern Virginia community, is hosting the town hall forum, which is focused on prevention and tools for successful management of diabetes. | Thanksgiving Service Planned for Community |
| A community Thanksgiving service will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 23 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, located at 651 Dranesville Rd. in Herndon. All members of the community are welcome to attend. The service is sponsored by Trinity Presbyterian, St. Timothy's Episcopal, Holy Cross Lutheran, Herndon United Methodist and Dranesville United Methodist churches. Worship will feature clergy and a combined choir from all participating churches. |

| Discussion to Focus on Modern, Traditional Jews |
| Rabbi Lia Bass Congregation will visit Congregation Beth Emeth in Herndon to present a discussion entitled "Living a Life of Torah" at 10 a.m. Nov. 23. Her presentation is part of the Beth Emeth Adult Enrichment Series recognizing the 20th anniversary of the publication of Emet Ve-Emunah, the statement of principles of American Judaism's Conservative Movement. In her talk, Rabbi Bass will address the challenges facing modern Jews who wish to integrate tradition with modernity. Bass, the spiritual leader of Congregation Etz Hayim in Arlington, was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She was the first woman from Brazil to be ordained as a rabbi and the first female conservative rabbi in Northern Virginia. | RA to Sponsor Trip to Spy Museum |
| The Reston Association will sponsor a trip for seniors ages 55 and older to visit the International Spy Museum. The trip will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 24, and attendees will be picked up at the Hunters Woods Village Center, Thoreau Place and the Lake Anne Fellowship House. The International Spy Museum reveals the secret history of espionage. Artifacts, archival photos and two hours of audio/visual programs, as well as mechanical and computer interactive displays are integrated in dramatic settings. The exhibits showcase the tradecraft of espionage through stories about the individuals, techniques, tools and missions that affected some of the most pivotal moments in world history. | Local Lounge to Host Dance Party |
| The So Addictive Lounge in downtown Herndon will hold a dance party from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Nov. 25. Dance instructors Ed Cottrell and Gail Crum will teach a free, beginner East Coast swing class beginning at 6:30 p.m., and people can dance to contemporary dance music throughout the night. | Scouts to Sell Christmas Trees |
| Boy Scout Troop 157 will again be selling Christmas trees through the holidays at Herndon United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Bennett Street and Dranesville Road. Sales will start on Nov. 28. Weekday hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday hours will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday hours will be from noon to 6 p.m. For more than 30 years, Troop 157 has sold Christmas trees as its primary source of funding. As a result, many boys in the Herndon area have enjoyed a variety of activities including camping and backpacking, bike trips, canoeing and whitewater rafting. Proceeds from the sales support many programs, in addition to helping defer the costs of supplies throughout the year. They also allow the troop to offer Camperships for those scouts in need. |
