After having partnered with Herndon High School for the past three years, Northwest Federal Credit Union and the NWFCU Foundation made their commitment to the school official during a ceremony on Tuesday afternoon. To kick off the partnership, NWFCU President and CEO Gerrianne Burks presented the school with a $5,000 check. The money will be used for staff conferences and workshops and the purchase of SmartBoards.
"The entire credit union, our foundation and our Herndon branch staff look forward to working closely with you and in empowering the students with the financial education they need especially during economic times like these," Burks said.
Since 2005, the NWFCU Foundation has sponsored the high school's Reality Store, an exercise that is designed to teach teens about saving and spending money. Linda Rogus, executive director of the NWFCU Foundation, said the foundation would continue to volunteer at the Reality Store and it also would provide staff with programs and materials, hold educational seminars about saving money for college and host annual staff leadership retreats. She also said the NWFCU Foundation would continue to provide college book scholarships and money for teacher development. "Anything you need, just give us a call," she said. "What we want to do is we want to have this program grow."
